Review of the Hunter 280 by Ed Caro

Owner bought the boat in 1998  
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely!  
Gear that's been added Bimini, ST-50 depth and knot log, Stereo/cd  
Structural or complex improvements  
The boat's best features The rig is well thought out with all controls to the cockpit. The 18hp Yanmar is a work horse. Cabin arranged well.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. We had a waste leak in the head which will be taken care of by the dealer, One access panel missing from under the main berth.  
Sailing characterisitcs We sailed this boat back 118 miles from Youngstown, NY to Fair Haven, NY in light following winds with seas ranging from 2 to 4 at the start and finishing in the 6 to 8 and occasionally higher. The boat handled surfing the waves extremely well. The engine (on break in) was run at around 2100 rpm and never had a problem.Downwind performance was good with only the main flying.  
Motoring characterisitcs I can't say enough about the performance of the the 18 hp Yanmar 2GM. The motor was flawless in 14.2 hours of steady running. The boat handles well in all conditions.  
Liveability It's real good and will be much better once the head is fixed.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Organization is the key to success in any endeavor. Our dealer left a lot to be desired in the organization deptartment. Many of the items we were told would be on the boat weren't. Delays in delivery were common and shouldn't have been.
