Review of the Hunter 28 by Wm. J. Morrison

Year built 1990
Location of boat Illinois
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1989
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely!!
Gear that's been added Full spinnaker gear, electronics,Autohelm autopilotlarger batteries (gell)
Structural or complex improvements NOT NECESSARY, even after a lightning strike!
The boat's best features This boat is easy to handle solo in ALL the weather Lake Michigan has to offer.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Sailing in a zero discharge zone means the standard holding tank is not enough, especiallywith guests on board.
Sailing characterisitcs In winds 0 - 15 knots, full sail, no hands on wheel (brake only)In winds to 20 knots, one reef in main, turn on autopilot. In winds to 30 knots, double reef in main, dropjib. In winds over 30 knots, STAY PUT IN HARBOR.
Motoring characterisitcs Once you have learned to use the prop walk to your advantage, you can make some very impressive dockings. The fuel economy is very easy on the pocketbook.
Liveability For an extended weekend for a couple, I would say very good. After a three week sail, another 10' would be better!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very helpfull and they are willing to fax any and all technical data you may need.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any My dealer worked hard to prep this boat right the first time, and I would buy from them again because of a job well done.
