Review of the Hunter 28 by William H. Borling

Year built 1991
Location of boat Hartwell, GA
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1991
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely
Gear that's been added Full-batten main, 150 Genoa w/roller-furling. autopilot
Structural or complex improvements Added drain petcocks at low points in raw water system. We sail year-round. After lightning strike, added grounding straps to metal dock plus forespar static diffuser.
The boat's best features Moderate air, single handed perfformance. comfort below.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Unable to extend boom fully due to aft-slanted shrouds. Factory main sheet/traveler rig jam-cleat opened regularly during breezy tacks. Removed cleat, routed sheet forward then aft to added sheet stopper. Also encountered trouble with traveler lines fouling at forward, lower edge of traveler bar. Installed aa 46" spacer made from a contrators ruler.
Sailing characterisitcs Excellant tup to 12 k. Then must reef mail or roll in genoa. Well balanced helm if reefed early. Don't recommend 150 for coastal sailing or consistanly over 15 k.
Motoring characterisitcs Turns crisply, backs well. runs forever on gallon of Diesel.
Liveability Luxurious for daysailing. We do not overnight.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Good. They supplied extra sheet stopper and provided good support after lightning strike.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any OK as dealers go...
