Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Dan Dawson

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? The more I sail the boat, the more respect I have for her construction. I now believe the boat to be a little better than expected. It's a little better built than I thought originally.  
Gear that's been added The sails controls from the factory were less than basic. I am upgrading everything and adding a vang, traveler and reefing lines back to the cockpit. Also I've adde a bigger back up bildge pump in the engine compartment.  
Structural or complex improvements The hull design and construction systems are better than I expected for a boat this affordable  
The boat's best features It is a roomy solid cruiser. I have a dry bildge and no leaks. I went from racing sail boats to the H27. I have enjoyed the change.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The original sail controls are too basic for an ex racer but the upgrades are no big deal  
Sailing characterisitcs I single hand the boat about half the time. Very managable. The boat's helm is balanced pretty well. She'll never go upwind with a J27, but you'll probably never get lucky down below on the J27.  
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 2 blade prop. It walks to port in reverse, like any boat. The 3 blade is worse. My westerbreke 12HP has been very reliable.  
Liveability We ocassionally send the night,which is fun. But it's a little small to be a comortable live aboard.

Other comments It's a lot of boat for the money. It's one of the better deals out there.
