Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Gunter Meyer

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes for the design buy I might be a bit morefussy about the state of the boat and equipment.AICA showed well but needed some convincingto accept her new owner.  
Gear that's been added Nothing unusual.  
Structural or complex improvements No.  
The boat's best features The traditional look and layout ofthe boat (particularly in relation toher cost).  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The Gray ports are junk. I have replaced the cabin ports two at a time with new portsfrom E  
Sailing characterisitcs My sails are old and the sheeting is suspectso windward performance is mediocre. When sheloses the groove in a puff then easing the main is about the only way to control her(shades of dinghy sailing). If there is too much wind to hold her with a reefed main(one line of reef points) then going under reducedjib alone a viable alternative (I assume themast will stay up). Overall I am wellsatisfied with the basic rig, and the hull rides easily and dry enough in a good chop. At anchor with wind and tide AICA is mostentertaining. The trailing edge of my keel isgooved where the anchor line bit into it.  
Motoring characterisitcs I have a Yanmar 1GM and a three blade prop(whose make and size I will record next timeshe is out of the water). Unlike my fellowowners I have NO complaints about her forwardspeed. If the prop is clean she goes wellin smooth and choppy water, and I would notworry about being pushed back by wind and tide.Nor do bigger boats on the ICW leave me standing still. However, I have basicallyNO reverse thrust. It takes forever toslow her down (much too long to depend on itwhile docking). If I want to move in reverse Ineed a couple of hundred yards to get going.Once I have speed through the water shemaneuvers well enough.The Yanmar has been a fine engine for me.  
Liveability AICA is used most weekends, and last summersailed around Florida. For two people she isquite comfortable. Water and holding tanks arelarge enough and the Origo stove is competent.An Origo Heat Pal will make winter anchoring inabove-freezing weather possible. But condensationoff bare walls is drenching.There is adequate secure storage.And crappy as they may be, I do appreciate the opening ports in warm weather.
