Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Tom Hinrichs

Year built 1981
Location of boat Clear Lake Texas
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1987
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No,This boat in hindsight has 3 things that restrictit to bay sailing and near shore service, shallowbilge with no well, lightweight rudder shaft, anda non integral
Gear that's been added BiminiLarger WheelOvenss sinkdual batteries170% genoaback-up main/jib haly.
Structural or complex improvements re built companionwayinstalled ovenbarrier coated bottomre fit mast
The boat's best features The boat points well and the helm balances withsail trim as it should. The boat will lay
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The worst gel coat of any boat I have ever owned. The lack of any isolation or bedding materialBetween the mast and the stainless hardware causedcorrosion in the salt water inviroment.Ports and hatches were badly bedded.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat sails well under most conditions.weather helm builds with the wind but it is easilycorrected with a reef or sail change.
Motoring characterisitcs Control is good.If you are trying to run against a 4 knot tideor stay in a line with a barge ahead and oneon your stern you need more horses to get the job done.
Liveability For my wife and myself a week aboard is more thancomfortable. For an extended period stowage isa little small. The holding tank is really onlygood for about 5-7 days and pumpout stationscan be hard to come by even in my area.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
