Review of the Hunter 27_75-84 by Bruce Colwin

Year built 1979
Location of boat Oyster Bay, LI
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely. Great first boat in terms of value and sailability (if that's a real word).
Gear that's been added Nothing much -- Removed 8-Track (seriously) and installed CD player and new speakers in the cabin and on the deck; replaced swim ladder with a safer model (bigger steps); and a few amenities for comfort.
Structural or complex improvements None.
The boat's best features I could afford it (as long as I don't feel compelled to put it in the water).
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Yanmar 1GM was rebuilt the year before I bought it, so there have been no engine problems. Had to replace a few items due to wear, such as bilge pump, ignition panel and kill switch, roller furling parts, guages, and all the sheets and halyards. Have a bit of water accumulating under the side berths, so need to tighten toe rails and re-caulk.
Sailing characterisitcs Very stable and responsive, but not particularly fast.
Motoring characterisitcs Due to the heavy weight and small inboard deisel, it's also very slow under power.
Liveability Can sleep off a hangover, but it's a little cramped. Though it is very liveable for it's size.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very responsive.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought the boat from Coney's Marine in Huntington, NY, which has also serviced it the past 3 years. They were great throughout.
