Review of the Hunter 26 by Eddie Dry

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, BUT There have several serious problems. See below.

Structural or complex improvements  
The boat's best features Much heavier than comparable McGregor.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The trailor built by Hunter in 1996 is so dangerous that it almost resulted in a very serious accident on a busy interstate. It is not well balanced, too short, not substantial enough to carry a boat of that weight. I gave the trailor to a salvage and bought a new trailor. The centerboard hardware (bolts, pens, rollers, up-haul lines) are very sub-standard and subject to significant rust (they are NOT stainless steel)and/or electrolsis. An examination of the parts found that there was so much deteroriation that the centerboard was likely to fall out and be lost. The bolt holding the centerboard bracket was so rusted that it was actually hollow. I'm in the middle of a very difficult retrofit of every fitting in the centerboard hardware. The boat has been kept on trailor when not used for most of its life.

The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) When the near-accident occurred with the Hunter trailor in the middle of nowhere (Kingman AZ), Hunter was zero help. Hunter would not help with suggestions on how to get a new trailer, or even what was the closest trailer dealer. Hunter Marine Co. was a very big disappointment.
