Review of the Hunter 25.5 by Peter Fournier

Year built 1985
Location of boat Little La Salle Island, Michigan
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Probably, since she is my first sailboat, and I am a novice, I think I got a relatively good deal and a nice boat.
Gear that's been added Garmin GPS 130, Autohelm ST50 Plus tridata and ST50 Plus wind instrument, custom teak dash, EPIRB, Schafer 750 roller furling system. Swim ladder. Quicksilver 300 tender with Mercury 25hp motor
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Forgiving in a stiff wind, easy to sail, good value.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Lots of noise from the prop(?) under sail (could be hull modulation). Gelcoat could be better. The front berth is a little small, and aft too claustraphobic. I removed the cushions and use it for storage.
Sailing characterisitcs Does not point into the wind extremely well, but that may be my novice sail tuning. Dissapointing downwind performance, but a gennaker should help, or maybe a 130 - 150% genoa.
Motoring characterisitcs No complaints.
Liveability Haven't tried yet, but looking forward to outfitting and provisioning for a cruise next summer.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Broker was very optimistic about the condition of a boat he had never seen. I used a surveyor to determine the condition of the boat - he was completely accurate and well worth the money.
