Review of the Hunter 25.5 by Joe Boyette

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. I did a lot of research before selecting this model Hunter, and all my expectations were met upon taking delivery of my boat.  
Gear that's been added Not yet. Any additional gear will be either to facilitate ease of use or to increase sailing performance.  
Structural or complex improvements No. But soon I plan to do something to secure the porta potti which has a tendency to come loose at extreme (rail dipping) angles of heel to the starboard side. We haven't used the head during our fairly short day sails, so it hasn't been more than a minor problem, so far...  
The boat's best features She is fast and easy to handle. Weather helm is "just right" in that it is a good signal that it is time to consider reefing the main. I've had some other boats which would round up suddenly and often uncontrollably - not this one. I like the deck and cockpit layout, with ample room to walk about and comfortable seating.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The white countertop in the head area, made of a very thin material, was brittle and peeling. I replaced it (re-covered) with formica. The wood securing the hatch cover and hand rails was replaced with composite "wood" deck material cut to fit from stock obtained from Home Depot. This material is a nice grey color and should require no maintenance!  
Sailing characterisitcs Fast boat, very responsive to the helm, points well, becomes overpowered upwind in wind over 20 mph or so. Boat responds well to crew placement when sailing with 2 or more crewmembers.  
Motoring characterisitcs With Honda 9.9, has plenty of speed.  
Liveability With low headroom interior, boat is ok for me for occasional overnights. For shorter folks, longer trips would be feasible.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have not dealt with Hunter since 1983, when we bought a Quest 33 kit boat from them. At that time, I was very satisfied with Hunter.  
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Overall good experience with The Hull Company in Charleston, SC. They made good on all promises and were very easy to deal with.  
Other comments Can't wait to go sailing!
