Additional Hand Hold

posted 09-12-2008 by John Meyer

The first thing I noticed, the first time I looked at this boat, was the wide companion way stairs. Although nice at a dock, they would be difficult in rough seas. It needed another hand hold. At the same time, the vertical bulkhead on the starboard side of the engine room, had little support and would loosen over time. After taking delivery, I bought a piece of stainless steel (6 6-1/2 x 1 diameter) and two stainless steel rails. What I ended up with was a vertical grab bar as you enter or exit the cabin from the cockpit. Installation was very simple. I only put in two screws on the top base someday Ill peel back the headliner, glue a block of wood under it and add the other two screws. However, it would be for ascetics only as two screws hold well. I also added a Pad eye around the tube and attached to the vertical engine compartment bulk head.
