2009 Hunter Raw Water Pump Impeller Access

posted 07-16-2012 by Gordon Wood

The 2009 Hunter has some very attractive stairs leading down into the cabin. When and if you ever have to re and re the impeller for the raw water pump the job can be made much easier by installing a 6 port below the last step and snug to the starboard side support. I have done the exercise without the port when I first acquired the 36. What I didnt like, was the fact, I couldnt do a complete visual inspection of the pump itself when the pumps face plate was off (yes, I did use a mechanics mirror and it does an OK job) but, to get an even better look and to get better ergonomic positioning when disassembling and installing...I installed the port. You dont even notice it, it is still backed by the soundproofing, and is very solid.
Caution, this is not a 1/4 wall of fibreglass. I took my time with a 6 hole saw. it is a good 1 of hardwood, fibreglass and veneer. Also, as others have mentioned, dont forget to put an old towel or large rag down below the pump when re and reing...those little screws are hard to retrieve when they fall below the engine...especially in a needed fix out on the open blue waters.
