Simple adjustable traveler upgrade

posted 10-07-2008 by John Schaub

This is a great way to make the stock traveler adjustable without removeing it. First install a couple Harken blocks with swivels to the car where the mainsheet tackle mounts, again you dont need to remove it either. Drill a hole thru the traveler track at each end large enough to push your new line thru and tie a stopper knot. Mount a Harken stand-up turning block and cleat to the cockpit back rest. Dont just screw them on, thru bolt with washers on the back. Seal all holes with sealant. Repeat on the other side, reeve a line on each side. Now your ready to enjoy those windier days, instead of laying on your side and then dumping the main sail, play the traveler and keep that mainsail trimed in. Youll be much happier.

You could mount the turning block and cleat running towards the back of the cockpit for single handing but I went for comfort, nobody like a cleat in their back.
