Line organizer in H23 Lazarette

posted 10-07-2008 by Jon Bastien

While I was replacing the rub rail on my boat, I discovered a golden opportunity to install a line organizer in my lazarette without any odd holes, screws, or epoxies!

When the white rub-rail moulding is removed, the Hull/Deck joint screws are exposed. I replaced about 6 of the original screws with some that were anout 1 1/2 longer, and attached a peice of scrap lumber to the inside of the lazarette where they came through the hull. Next, I screwed a few Bicycle and hardware hooks into it. Here are the results.

This is how the line organizer looks from the stern of the lazarette, looking forward. The fender on the right bounces off the bulkhead between the storage area and the galley when were underway...

I used smaller hooks here, to hold the fenders.

Here is a shot taken from the hatch of the lazarette, straight in. Note that the hooks holding the lines are MUCH larger- I have a lot of lines to hang!!

Middle of line organizer

Here it is, looking aft from the forward edge of the lazarette hatch (confused yet?).

There are a total of 4 large hooks and 3 smaller hooks.

I can get to all of the lines easily, the fenders are pretty easy to get to, and the lines all stay untangled and out of the puddles that sometimes form when I dont sponge out the bilge... This has also helped reduce the bug problem on board (wet lines attract all kinds of creepy-crawlies...).

Now if I could just find a good way to store everything ELSE I have aboard... ;o)
