Boom tent and boomkicker on H216

posted 10-07-2008 by Jeff Prideaux

My new boom kicker installed. I had cut about 4 inches off the stock length. I am using the larger rods. I will try both the larger and smaller rods while sailing to see what works best.

Last year I was always wishing I had more compartments to put things. This will come in handy.

More cabin storage

For a frame for the boom tent, I simply used some thin line and a piece of PVC pipe. The line goes from the shrouds to the PVC pipe to the stern cleat.

This shows the PVC pipe which will function to hold the lines and tarp up at the stern.

This shows the line going through the PVC pipe at the end.

The tarp (8x12) simply drapes over the wire frame. Bungy cords are used to hold it in place.

The stern view of the tarp. The PCV pipe can easily go inside the cabin. The tarp+PVC+rope all cost under $25. I already had the bungy cords. I havent actually tried it out yet except for in my driveway. Ill report back in the small boat forum how it works in real-world conditions.

The topping lift or mast-support shown in the pictures are not part of the setup. Neither are the trailor guides that are shown (my boat is still on the trailor).
