Mast Boot

posted 09-12-2008 by Paul Wash

Everyone - I installed the mast boot, added weather stripping, sealed my mast track and my cabin has been leak free for the past month! You have to install the snaps so you need a rivet gun, a drill, and some sealant (5200 the permanent stuff). Also, I would recommend adding silicone sealant (note - not the 5200!!!) into the mast track that goes all the way into the cabin. I added silicone from just above the gooseneck all the way down. Other than that - it took < 15 minutes. I also added weather stripping to the inside of the boot collar as well as the sail cover collar. See the pics below: Full view of the mast boot. Notice the sail cover goes over top of it. Also notice the aft portion of the boot is riveted to the hatch.

This is a close up of the aft portion of the mast boot. The top portion is the sail cover. You can the weather stripping around the collar of the boot. You can also catch a glimpse of the silicone sealant in the mast track.

This final pic is one of the top of the sail cover collar. While the weather stripping here may not be doing much, it is acting as a 1st line of defense of water dripping.
