masthead improvements

posted 09-12-2008 by Dan W

This is not the most beautiful mod. I am glad it is 30 feet up in public. All those nuts are threadlocked, hope they hold. Use the tricolor lights to figure the orientation. VHS antenna $50, windex $40, tricolor $45, and Davis Mega masthead light $45, and piece of aluminum bar stock to mount tricolor on the windex and a piece of sheet aluminum scrap to mount masthead light on top of the tricolor light.

Whip antenna portion lost due to loose allen screw, being replaced

It is hard to see with this out of focus shot but i included it to show the piece of aluminum sheet metal. I traced the top of the tricolor light onto a piece of plywood and cut it out with a jig saw, placed the sheet metal between the pieces of plywood and used a vise to force the aluminum to take the shape of the tricolor light and trimmed the excess, leaving a mount for the masthead light so the power cord line up between the red and white lens of the tricolor. Its attached with the screw holding the top of the housing of the tricolor as best seen in masthead 4 above.

keel guide I mentioned a keel guide, since the trailer guides help some. Used 3/4 plywood separated with a ripped 2x4 at the top with white seaboard to promote sliding onto the bunk. I mounted a transom sounder transducer in front of the keel if you can make that out.
