I used to use a Nissan 9.9 hp outboard. With the advent of lithium batteries, I decided to buy a 14 amp hour battery and try my old trolling motor. It works great! my trolling motor has 5 speeds and at the middle speed I consume 10 amps giving me 1.4 hours of motive power. I went from 120 pounds (which is > 8% of the dry weight of the boat) to a mere 17 pounds! I actually bought 2 lithium batteries for long trips where I may want to motor for a longer period of time or run the motor at a higher speed.
