New salon tables

posted 08-28-2009 by Ron McCoy

Here are two photos of the new salon tables for our H386. The original table was way too large and was difficult sitting around it. I removed the old table and still had the SS tube with flanges on the compression post. I visited Yukon Lumber Co in Norfolk, VA and purchased a 9 ft plank of 1 1/2 teak. I had designed new templates using construction paper. Yukon cut and glued the teak board to match my templates. They ran it through their planer, after which I took them home to do the final sanding and finish work. On the boat, I added steel support bars and bolted them in place diagonally on the compression post sleeve flanges. I also routed the underneath side of the new tables to accept the steel supports. The top table has two pieces that were fitted so as to surround the compression post. The small piece was attached to the larger piece with 3 screws. Both tables take up very little space, are quite strong and provide us with much more living space on the boat.
