Schematic for Cheap Companion Way Doors

posted 10-07-2008 by Ron Wilson

The four hinges used were 3 slip-joint SS hinges (available many places on the web). These allow the doors to sit down in the existing track but to be raised when opening or closing without taking them off the hinges. All teak joints were made with mortise/tendon and the acyrlic sheet was inset by 1/8 to 1/4 channel cut with with either a router or dado blade when the frames were original cut to size. Note the doors overlap in the middle section by 1/2 for support when closed. The only two measurements that are critical are the top (frame opening to frame opening) and the bottom frame opening. The degree cuts on either side are 80 degrees. Tools used, table saw, orbital sander, router. All mortise and tendons were done on the table saw.
