TV installation

posted 08-17-2014 by mulf

This project was actually done over the winter of 2002 before Dreamboat was launched. Given that there are several threads about how to install a TV I thought I should post this. I had the dealer install a powered Shakespeare flying saucer type antenna at the top of the mast during the delivery commissioning, as well as a 12 volt socket and a TV cable socket as well. The TV is actually a computer monitor with a TV tuner that was intended to run off 110 volts but had a brick that converted that to 12 volts. I just removed the brick and 110 plug and attached fused 12 volt plug. It has run perfectly on the boats 12 volt supply for 12 years now. With the digital tuner (on the little shelf under the TV) I can get a large number of stations including the regional continuous digital radar feed for the Chesapeake.

Picture 1 is the finished setup. Picture 2 shows the 12 volt and TV cable sockets. I have just run a second TV cable all the way back to the transom and am shopping for a deck outlet and an A/B switch so I can easily switch from the antenna to dockside cable when in a marina with cable TV.
