Install 380 Water Pump Access Hatch

posted 10-07-2008 by John VerBraken

It is difficult to get at the impellor and water pump on the 3JH2E engine on our 1999 380.

To gain convenient access to port side of engine for the 376 and 380, purchase a Sure Seal hatch 751006 503 $57.99 751007-20 x 12. Can order from BoatUS or WM.

Use template provided and with a Dremel Zip cut the opening. Use a long bit for the ply after cutting out the FG shower hole.

Frame the edges of the plywood, put a couple of toggles on the back and put it back in the hole.

Cut Hole

Use silicone and 10 #10 screws to secure hatch in opening. Hatch has double O-ring seals.

Place hatch in opening

If you place the hatch correctly, when open it will catch the latch for the aft shower door and hold it open. Cool!

If the door opens down, it will be in the way of you when you are working on the impellor. Opening up it is totally out of the way.

Measure carefully to use door latch to hold open

This hatch has two locking levers so it should not leak when the shower is being used.

Now, as you can see, you will really have fun changing your impellor. It is so neat that your friends will want to change it for you.

It is also easy as pie to remove bolts and change starter motor. If you do not install the hatch access, you cannot even see both bolts.

Installation time was 1 hour. Used two roto bits. The FG trashed the first one.

Great engine access is result
