H37C Main Cabin Table Mod

posted 06-11-2013 by Jose Guidera

The salon table was built so that the mast passes through it making it impossible to remove it after installing it. I decided I needed to be able to remove it and re install it as needed. I also found the storage area pretty small so I made it 13 deep in order to make a bottle storage area out of it. Looks great.
Pic 1: Table as it came out of the boat.
Pic 2: Table apart. Notice front leg is on the other side of the mast hole. This makes for a very flinsy leg.
Pic 3: Moved the leg inboard of the mast hole and attached it to the storage box.
Pic 3: Decided that there is not enough storage.
Pic 4: Made a storage box out of birch plywood. 6 wide x 13 deep.
Pic 5: Cut the mast opening in two places. Installed a cleat under the cut out piece and now the table can slide in and out as needed. Made a couple of Maple strips to fill the saw kerf areas. Now the cut out fits tight back on the table
Pic 6:Many coats of varnish later and an Ebony and Maple star on the opening lid completes the table
Pic 7: Waiting to lifted back on the boat.
