New bow roller and windlass

posted 03-25-2012 by Renasci

Heres a lesson learned; if you install a windlass, the chain gypsy is always on the starboard side. I know, several of you are saying, yea, and I bet I know what he did... Yea, I cut the anchor locker lid in half, glassed and gel-coated everything and I installed the windlass. Then, I realized that the bow roller was way under sized on the starboard side, so yet another project was born. I had to pull the old one off ( and yes, it felt like I was being given birth to again, all over again, its a tight fit up there) and have a new roller welded on. I wish I had asked them to make it pretty, they didnt, but it works. I found that there was a serious stress crack in the SS metal that was absolutely going to lead to a catastrophic failure without question. The warm and fuzzy that I have now justifies having climbed up into the vberth like I had to. I also used two additional bolts from the top, so I think itll hold up, I hope everything turned out well, time will tell.
