New rudder install

posted 01-15-2012 by Renasci

Well, I finally finished with the new rudder install. Many thanks to St. Johns Boat Yard and Foss Foam. It started out as an inspection of the strut and R and R the rudder. It ended up including the pedistal idlers that mount underneath, a new steering cable, new quadrant, rework the lower rudder bearing, new propeller shaft, removed cleaned and reinstalled strut with new cutless bearing using larger bolts. I drove the old rudder down to Foss Foam and they had a new one ready in 4 days. With the new quadrant having a larger diameter, it steered differently and to the better in my opinion. I learned several things this trip out of the water, and completed some tasks that were on that at some point in the future, Im going to need to ... list. I cant wait to go fishin now....
