Anchor Locker Grate

posted 05-05-2011 by Jose Guidera

The bottom of my anchor locker was super nasty, had gouge marks left by the anchor flukes and stains from the chains. I decided to make a grate to spread the load and keep the fibreglass from nore damage.

Picture 1: I looked around the shop and found Mahogany flooring left over from a job. I removed the tongs and had 3 wide boards left.

Picture 2: After cleaning the fiberglass, I made a paper patern of the locker.

Picture 3: Made two 1x1 sleepers and attached the slads with a hot glue gun temporarely. Trimmed all the boards and checked for fit

Picture 4: Not bad looking. Flipped over and pre drilled each slat and secured with 1 1/4 stainless screws

Picture 5: Fits perfect. Will not varnish. Will turn to a nice grey color with age. Almost hate to stow my chains and rodes over this new grate.
