Wall mounted salon table

posted 07-20-2010 by Joel Vannorsdel

This is response to the question about the salon table, that dominates the 37C, at least in my 1982 version. My wife, then girlfriend, never liked having to move around the table all the time we were below deck. It seemed to always be in the way. So I removed the existing table and build a shadow box like structure on the bulkhead to the head. I was framed on 1x6 dimensional pine for a prototype later to be replaced with mahogany, this of course has never happened yet. I did find a cherry stain that looks real good compared to the mahogany.

Anyway, back to the table. I reused both leaves of the table to make a fold down and fold out table so both seat in the salon were able to have a table for dining or card playing. The legs have pegs to go into holes in the cabin floor to keep them stable and the length of the top, required a sliding mechanism to bring it up to level.

The sliding mechanism is just a piece of aluminum right angle screwed to the side of the shadowbox with a lip to catch the table end at the correct height. In the shadowbox I put in shelves that contain the liquor supply for Fat Tuesday. One issue with the bottles is separation to prevent breakage. We all know that breakage is really alcohol abuse. So right now I just have the bottles wrapped in shipping foam.

I will attach a few pictures so you can see what I mean.
