H37C Refer Project

Per Gene G. I decided that I wanted the air inlet for the compressor to be from the cabin. I did not want to be recyling the air in the locker which also gets warm from the engine. And I did not want to ventilate the locker. Do know, though, that you will hear it running.

You can also see the 15 amp breaker and panel from Blue Sea. My Link 2000 keeps me updated on battery status.

Locating the air inlet.

Here you see the hole is cut, the breaker is mounted, and the condensor is in the box. I had to mount it on 1/4 plywood strips so that the door would close tightly. I also added one inch of insulation to the entire inside top of the box. The top door was likewise insulated and rubber edges were added. The drain on the bottom is sealed so that I have to sponge out water periodically.

Progress.

I had previously added a 1/4 cover to the top of the icebox. I had to add a 3/4 board so the compressor would clear a trim strip and fit tightly against the bulkhead. This picture was taken before the unit was sealed. And before the breaker and wiring was installed. I used #10 wire from the unit to the breaker and then from the breaker directly to one of the house batteries. Running the wire to the electrical panel across the boat would require heavier wire and too much work. The white AC wiring is before I tied up my other project, a shorepower connector in the anchor locker.

Compressor mounting.

Here is the inlet with the cover off of my bathroom exhaust fan. I could not find a thin enough cover so I stole the one from home. Still I had to take the cabinet door home and cut 1/4 off of it. It would not clear that plastic cover. I am very impressed with how well this A/B system works. I will continue, however, to improve the insulation. But now from the outside. And yes, I did find a new cover for the bathroom. :)

Final look.
