Quarter berth mouse fur gone

posted 10-07-2008 by Scott Wilson

I was able to rip off the carpet in about 20 minutes, using a razor knife in a couple of places, just clamp the vise grips on a carpet scrap and jerk. I did not prep the interior hull at all, just thickened up some epoxy with the mirco balloon powder additive and stuck the 3/8 inch plywood on in random positions.

screw blocks glued to hull

I got a box of manufactured hardwood flooring, the thinest I could find, so it would bend somewhat. The flooring measured about 7 by 38 and cost about $60 for the approx 23 sq ft box. I marked a horizonal line about 1/3 the way up from the berth for my first row and counter sunk the screws as I went along.

Flooring on the wall

I put a few coats of polyurithane on after I puttied up the seams and screw heads. It loooks better in the photo than on the boat. I should have ripped the 7 wide boards down to 3.5 so they would contour to the hull better, doubling the rows from 5 to 10. Still, its an improvement. 2 day job.
