This a photo from Ed Allens H37C where a winch and clutches were added. He mounted them on teak risers so that the purchase would be even over the small hatch. A straight pull from the mast requires going under the traveler.

Here is a better view of the route through the traveler. While not as convenient it might be better to have the clutches forward of the hatch. Then the hatches could be open except when using the winches.
