Avoid this project!

The challenge, remove the bladder holding tank and fit at least a 20 gallon hard replacement. At the same time leave room to access the original thru-hulls and the two new Nexus thru-hulls, the log and depth transducers. This area will easily accomodate a 35 gallon Ronco tank EXCEPT for the requirement to reach those thru-hulls.

H37C center v-berth locker.

This was not a surprise. I made about 20 cardboard templates before deciding on this particular 22 gallon Ronco. This tank is heavy duty and Ronco will place the inlet/outlet/vent fittings wherever you want them. The outlet is a standpipe. pumps out from the top so you dont have waste lying in the hose as you would from a bottom exit(as was the bladder tank). Now to get it in there.

No fit!

Here is the cutout that I made to allow the tank to drop into the locker. I glassed 2x3 supports that you can barely make out. One is right under the hose. The 1x12x36 shelf is not shown in any of the photos. I also screwed and glassed a 2x2 for the length of the shelf to the inside of the bulkhead. Two 3000# test web straps were mounted and will hold the tank to the shelf. I made the cutout too small, I have to remove those aluminum supports to insert/remove the tank.

You can also see the new holes and glassed pads for the new transducers. Those were tough to make!

The cutout.

Heres the tank in the locker. Only need to mount the hoses to finish the deal. The hoses go through the starboard v-berth locker. One to the vented-loop in the head, one to the deck fitting for pumpout, and the small one to the vent. All this work and only 22 gallons! But there is only one better location and that is where the starboard water tank is located. I just was not willing to give up water capacity. All of this replaces the original aluminum 18 gallon tank that was under the shower seat.

Do not attempt this unless you have a lot of time and patience! :-)

Almost done.
