Fuel tank overhaul

posted 09-12-2008 by Renasci

And in this episode, weve decided that sucking out a quart of muddy sludge from the bottom of the fuel tank wasnt good enough, so we drilled holes, made covers, cleaned up, and put everything back. It was about the job I had imagined. Like most projects, its an exercise in patience, and going to the right stores to get the materials to build the new hatches really helped. In the beginning, there were small holes,

that grew into large holes.

Then after a good cleaning and a lot of tapping (thank GOD it was aluminum), its ready to go back together.

And I managed to grab one last shot before the batteries died on the camera.

Locating the baffles wasnt too hard, I just found the first via the fuel gauge and took into account about having room to cut and tap. The whole thing took several weekends, but its worth it. Hopefully, I wont lose the motor due to dirty fuel, we all know that itll happen at the breakwater, the worse possible moment.
