Salon table modification

posted 10-07-2008 by Lyle Hanna

The salon table can be raised right up to the headliner giving approximately 510 headroom underneath. It does not affect the headroom in the main walkway through the salon.

Table up and out of the way

The teak boxes under the table and the metal bracket holding them in place was removed with a dremel and metal cutting wheel. The sleeve around the compression post was cut down to a smaller width but the T-handle mechanism to tighten the sleeve was retained.

Boxes have been removed

The thickness of the table was doubled using marine plywood with a laminate finish. This was necessary to give the table the desired stiffness that was lost when the metal brackets were removed. The plywood backing was cut just slightly smaller than the table in order to allow the table to be lowered all the way down to the bunk position if required. The leaf extension was also removed. If desired you could build a new table top but obviously this would substantially increase the cost of the table.

Much more leg room under the table without the boxes!
