Anchor wash

posted 09-12-2008 by Gene

I have a 1995 Hunter 35.5 legend, I would like to add a water hose inside the anchor locker, does anyone have done anything similar?, parts used?. I would not like to add another thru hull fitting but rather maybe teeing off from the head water intake.
Thanks,
Gene

On our H34, we have had a anchor wash since new in 86. We have improved the system since our rebuild and launch this summer. Originally we teed off of the head intake, then went to a water puppy and then to a garden hose that was snaked to the front of the anchor locker. The hose ended with a pistol grip nozzle. Two problems with the system. The water puppy had no pressure sensor so it was always on and the intake would cause the head to loose its prime. Now we have installed a true water pump as used on the fresh water system (it automatically shuts off at high pressure) and the head is isolated from that pump by a clapper style check valve from Home Depot. (Half the price of WM) The hose leading to the locker is the same stuff as the rest of the plumbing. (solid nylon) and it leads to the same hole in the locker but now to a bulkhead fitting that a short garden hose connects to. Our sea-trial results? Perfect.
