Easier access to fuel/holding tanks

posted 02-18-2013 by Rocket1

I found myself needing to gain access to the space behind the bulkhead in the aft stateroom on several occassions, and got very tired of unscrewing the T trim at both ends so I could remove the entire panel. This required the removal of all of the bedding, including the mattress, and proved to be a major hassle. Not only that, the Admiral was getting very annoyed at having to remake the bunk every other day!

What I did is fairly self-explanatory by looking at the photos, and it has proven to be MUCH more convenient for accessing the space behind the bulkhead. No special tools were required, and I believe virtually anyone with the most basic of skills could do something similar.

The magnetic catches are more than strong enough to hold the door in the closed position, though not so strong as to make it a challenge to open.

The cabinet hinges and magnetic catches are attached to blocks that I glued to the backside of the panel. I suppose I could have utilized some hardware as well, but I didnt want any screw heads or hardware showing, and so far the glue has proven to adequate.

The only addition that I may consider at some point would be to add a small nitrogen shock to hold to door open while Im poking around.

If you have any questions about what I did, or how I did it, feel free to contact me.
