Leaking toerail, faded topsides, and old bottom

posted 11-08-2011 by Mike Dhillon

I bought a H33-C last winter from a neighboor, this past spring I decided to give the entire boat a refit starting with the exterior, the interior is this winters project. There was extensive leaking on the strbd side toe rail and most chainplates and stantions (original 30+ years old...go figure), so the entire toe rail was removed along with the stantions and the butyl removed. The whole perimeter was ground down with 36 grit discs and layed up with 4, 6, and 8 inch glass tape and west system resin. I sanded with 80 grit between all layers, then west system resin and fairing compound was used to smooth the whole mess back out. All of the old antifouling was sanded off, blisters (only a few) were ground out and filled and the bottom was coated in 6 coats of west system barrier coat. The topsides were primed with epoxy primer and topcoated with perfection. All through hulls and seacocks (galvanized gatevalves) were replaced with proper brass groco installations.
