Bowsprit for 33 ft

posted 10-07-2008 by David Foster

The bowsprit is 4 ft long and 14 inches wide. The material I used was Ash for the body and trimmed with walnut. I had to split the ash so the roller furling would fit. I drilled a 1/2 in hole trough the ash in four spots and counter bored in about 3/4 to accommodate the nuts on the threaded rode. The walnut trim covers up the holes and adds a finshing touch. Lots of west system and a few coats of varnish finished it off.

I brought the bowsprit back as far as I could to the anchor locker to give me as much area to bed it in and be able to put a good size backing plate underneath. I used the old cleat...done me well in the past and it is large.

There are a few spots that have to be cut out to fit but I used a cardboard template and then just traced it.
