Hunter 33 Toe Rail Drains

posted 10-07-2008 by David Underwood

So, here it is, into the wind no less.... I have a hose running on the foredeck of the boat to show how well the Toe Rail Drains work. The drains I added to my H-33 to help keep the area of the toe rails that usually hold an inch or so of water, pretty well drained and dry. Saves alot of cleaning where water normally stands and gets really dirty.

Recently, I was asked to post my Toe Rail Drains..

The drain opening itself is almost 1 inch in diameter, and is blended into the white gel coat. It is placed low so all water goes for this hole which drains to the outside of the hull.

Starboard View..

The Port side shows a little better with the light coming from that side, again, the hole is the lowest piont in that area.

Port view...

The hole on the outside of the hull, gelcoated to match the hull, the trim tape has been cut away but may be replaced when I re - stripe the boat.

The starboard exit hole to the outside..

This is the real story, here is the fiberglass tube that I made by rolling fiberglass around a round object like a broom handle, covered with wax paper so it will release. Once cured, the tube is cut into three parts using a jig saw to cut the different angles to make up the finished shape. All pieces are then fiberglassed together while in place between the hull and deck. One day I will gelcoat them white so they look better.

The working part....
