Refrigeration installation

The Evaporator is attached to the inside top of the ice box with stainless steel #8 screws and 1 nylon spacers. The evaporator is an Adler/Barbour Evaporator, Series 50 O-Type includes 6.5 copper tube set, mounting hardware, and thermostat assembly. Cooling capacity 4.5 cu.ft. with 3 in. insulation: 40% on time. I figure the cooler is only roughly 3 cu.ft.

I drilled a 1 1/8 hole with a hole saw in the upper back outboard corner from the inside of the cooler. This allowed the fittings on the end of the tubing to pass through the hole.

The Condenser is mounted on a 3/8 piece of plywood painted white then screwed to the top of the cooler in the sail locker. The back of the plywood was slotted to go over the hole and around the tubing and wire. The hole was then covered from inside of the cooler and filled with spray foam from above.

I mounted the thermostat on the inboard wall just below the opening into the cooler.

I ran this unit for about 45 minutes with an outside temp of 60 and the cooler temp got to about 28F
