This is the stalk that fits down inside the rudder post.

Here is the tiller attached to the rudder post. I must tell you that I would not want to steer the boat in very heavy seas with this arrangement. It may be fine if you were in calm waters but you would also probably want to have a towel or something to wrap around the end of the tiller.
