There is a lot of storage space under the seat in the aft shower. I cut a hole in the top for the shown hatch and inside is a huge space that can be used. Not shown is the starboard shelf I put on the inside bottom to have a flat surface to place items. We use this area for items such as laundry soaps, and other containers that may get damp. With a good sealing hatch there is really no water under the seat. I thought about putting the hatch vertically, but decided to got horizontal so we could store more items with easier access
