260 Table the way it should be...

posted 10-07-2008 by Calvin Smith

The table in the 260 has always been somewhat a mystery to me. Why so large? It takes up half the usable room in the interior and is virtually useless except an extension to the v-berth. It also appears as if it was originally designed to drop down on the sofa and make a large sleeping area. I got a friend of mine who is a good carpenter to cut the thing up and devise a way to make it usable as a table, sleeping area, and to get the thing completely out of the way. This picture shows the result as a table, which will probably be its least used feature.

The right size table

The table can still swing around

And it can be moved completely out of the way.

Not the board that runs up the length of the compression post with the pin resting on an attachment. This makes it secure.

Back view of the raised table

It just fits!

Big part of the table stowed away.

This does work. I am going to be looking for an adjustable collar with supports that I can attach to the bottom of the table and use the adjustment to lock the table in place at any position on the post. Currently, it is a little bother to attach and remove this support but it is fully functional.

The support for the table

When the table is put in the down position and the part removed is added a large and VERY comfortable sleeping postion is created.

Table all the way down

We may create a cushion specifically sized for this sleeping area, but the current cushions do a very good job. (just stuff a few towels etc in the holds. This is MUCH more comfortable than either the v-berth or the rear berth.

A cheap bed

A GE 6100 BTU air conditioner fits just right in the companion way hatch!
