Mast-top VHF mount

posted 10-07-2008 by Brigg Franklin

I had to move the windex back about five inches to clear the center of the mast where the antenna would mount. This also gives me a better view of the windex from the cockpit.

New windex mounting bracket

I mounted the antenna thur-hull fitting in the port side of the mast step, accross from the 12 volt socket. I also capped it to keep out weather when the cable is off.

antenna cable through mast step.

Inside the access hole forward of the compression post I attached a short length of cable routed aft inside the headliner to the second access hole. Be sure to seal everything tightly.

Inside the headliner

I cut a hole in the plate covering the aft access hole and fed both the antenna cable and 12 volt power line out. I had previously routed a new 12 volt line from the fuse panel over the galley for use with other electronic toys. The radio is out of the way for movement in the cabin but can be easily heard both inside and in the cockpit. The radio also removes easily for storage. I have additional pictures and a more detailed description of this and my other H-260 projects on my personal sailing web site:

I welcome new project ideas and have learned a lot by cruising the hunterowners.com web sight. Thanks guys.
