Water Ballast Tank Pumpout

posted 09-12-2008 by Bob Fliegel

Some owners want to pump their ballast tank out to lighten the boat or to exchange the water.

A Rule 500 GPH Bilge Pump was installed in the bottom of the water ballast tank through a deck plate placed under the dech step. Overall Picture of Project

Note that there should be a blue screen that attaches to the bottom of the bilge pump. I permanently mounted the screen (3M 5200) to the bottom of the W/B tank. Now I just pass the pump through the deck plate and snap it into the screen on the bottom of the tank. After the tank is pumped, I just unsnap the pump and store in a dry place for the next time. Ill just leave the plastic tubes in the tank so they are out of the way. Closer Look at the Pump and Deck Plate

It is this screen into which the pump is snapped into place or removed. Picture of the Pumps Screen Glued to Tank Bottom
