Installing Pedestal

posted 09-12-2008 by Jim Seamans

A pedestal is optional on the H260. Installing one is not all that difficult

Had placed the first foot and drilled the access hole to bring the wires up through the deck.

This gives access to the transom. Depth and Knot meter wires were rerouted so they could all exit via the transom and up to the pedestal. Rear bulkhead taken out

Exposing the wiring and to get access to the back of the knot meter. I placed a wood block to mount the electric panel to. The fiberglass is thin, screws were not holding. Also, due to the amount of wire, there is not enough room behind the panel.

Dave filled in the hole the knot/depth meter left. You can see ripples from the layer of gelcoat drying. Dave did not get to finish it off as well as he wanted. It started RAINING.. Another day...Dave has filled in the hole

We had finished running wires up throught the pededstal guard and were getting ready for the instrument pod. We found out the engine controls were going to hit the pod. Ordered a 54 guard.

Instrument pod for two instruments. It normally does not come with the black face. Dave miss cut the holes which would not allow the knot/depth meter mount. So I had a piece of lexan and used it to install the instruments. Edson instrument pod.

Closeup of the feet for the pedestal. These are the older mounts. Edson has come out with a new mounting system and the tubes are 1 1/8 diameter. I have installed 1 tubes. Shows the access panel to the under deck which will give access to the bottom of the pedestal.

Pedestal access

This is a 6 1/2 diameter hole, thickness is 1/2. Gives great access to the pedestal. Used a Zip tool with circle cutter. Lots of dust and took about 15 minutes to cut. Took my time.

Hole is cut. Used a normal access port sealed with 3M 101 - Lots of it. Real fun sealing the top, squirt a bunch on your finger and smear. Check it with a mirror and do it some more. Access plate installed

While I was still at Daves, we realized the 45 pedestal would not work. After the instrument pod was placed in position, the engine controls hit the pod. So I ordered a 54 pedestall and after a lot of measurements, I cut 6 of each leg to give a pedestal 48 high.

Instrument pod installed Everything is installed and WORKS!! Now all I have to do is clean everything up.
