Cruizin the Bahamas in a 25.5, Part 2

posted 10-07-2008 by Brian Bosley

...looking for coffee, she was! We awoke around 7:30 and began to plan our run down the ditch (intra-coastal waterway). We phoned a sailmaker in St. Augustine about our jib issues... and after contemplating a 2 day delay to get it fixed, Steph made the executive decision to try and repair the torn jib while underway. (...yes, fellas, she sews too!)

ok... after a failed attempt, ROUND TWO begins!

I think she was looking for coffee, too.

...even Whisper got up at a decent hour today.

...if you havent sailed through here, or even come to visit, you are missing one of the best little towns in Florida... absolutely wonderful place! (...and we live here!!)

morning view of St. Augustine...

...the Army Corps of Engineers has erected a temporary bridge while they renovate the historic Bridge of Lions.

the temporary bridge

...there is just NOTHING to look at besides empty shoreline.

sometimes...

...passing the Ormond Bridge, just north of Daytona. There was very little to do this day except read and take turns napping. We were still tired from the previous days of prep and bad sailing... This picture was as the sun was setting and we were about 30 minutes from our first anchorage...

first stop...

Awoke at 7AM and promptly made coffee... this pic is of us approaching the fuel dock in Daytona. (we got pretty good service that morning...)

Day three begins...

The water was calm, the sky stunning, no bugs, and the galley gourmet was in the kitchen... what more could a guy ask for?

Beautiful arrival...

...as we passed Ponce Inlet.

Ponce de Leon lighthouse...

...after seeing (and passing) the inlet, and feeling the call of the open ocean (again), Steph decided it was time to get that sail fixed...

Steph gets busy...

of Steph working her mojo... (on the sail!)

...another angle

...so exactly how many miles do we have to go in the canal?? We decided to try our luck in Fort Pierce... 175 miles away. I was actually looking forward to the ride as Steph had never been through all of the intercoastal on the East coast of FL. (...and that should give us enough time to fix the sail!)

Steph plots the course...

...she found this tiny lure in a tackle shop in St Augustine. What in the world does she plan to catch with THAT thing??

...time for her to do some fishin!!!

...nothing yet! (maybe well try again later)

uhmm...

With the sail repaired and our rest getting caught up, we wind down the day with another spectacular display of nature... part 3 next week!

...approaching anchorage number 2
