Review of the Hunter 450 by George Fletcher

Year built 1998
Location of boat San Diego
The boat is sailed on Open ocean
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No
Gear that's been added Genset, radar, Autohelm 7000, GPS, furling main, electric winch
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Spaciouness, headroom
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Poorly designed sink access in forward head. Too far under cabinet for access.
Sailing characterisitcs More sluggish than my Passage 42
Motoring characterisitcs The stern
Liveability It's a very liveable boat provided you never motor it. This assumes of course that the winds are always blowing whenever you depart for a passage.I don't know about the East coast, but you don't sail before 11:00AM in San Diego. It makes it tough when you leave at 5:00AM for a trip!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Poor
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any On a scale of 1 to 10- they get a five
