Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? We traveled all around the US looking for this boat. We are very happy with the Passage 42.We had problems with the company that shipped it out from Florida. We now have a new mast, toe rail and steering col. The mast is a dark blue and should be stronger than the first mast.
Gear that's been added Where do I start. The guy who owned it before us never went more than 20 miles from home, but he spent alot of money on it. Things he added was liferaft, SSB, tuner, stero, 100 disk CD player,R-20 radar, Ray 600 chartploter, extra VHF radio, cold plate ref., fwd and aft A/C, Northern Lightsgen set, Pro Furl roller furling, 2 gps's, and a Garman GPS chartplotter.
Structural or complex improvements I got rid of the inverter and put in a Heart 30 with a Link 2000R. I lso upgraded the Alt. I took out the fwd tv and put in a 20 inch tv/vcr. Also someone had put a tv in the aft cabin.
The boat's best features Makes a really nice liveaboard. Wife likes the aft cabin with the tub.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I have had problems with the heads, and the holding tank is rusting out. This is the 2nd tank.I only have 26 gallons which is to small. I had some problems with the A/C and Ref but that was from clogged intake lines.
Sailing characterisitcs Only sailing we have been able to do was in 30 knot winds in Florida. She handled very good.
Motoring characterisitcs Motor's along at 8 knots at 2800 rpms.
Liveability Once we worked out the bugs it's been really nice. Being full time liveabords we could use more space to hang our suits.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Buying long distance was alot of fun (NOT). Once the broker got his money that was the last I heard of him. I did call the owner and she then made things happen. The yard in Florida tried ripping me off to prepare the boat for shipping. Next time I would be there when the boat was being gotten ready to ship. Plus I would follow it across the US to make sure it got home ok.
