Review of the Hunter 40 by Gordon Hanebutt

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? oh yeh! we love this boat, we had a 28.5 prior to this and we love the extra room for our family of four  
Gear that's been added Minimal, mostly creature comforts, TV, VCR etc.  
Structural or complex improvements None  
The boat's best features The walk around bed in the aft cabin, is great. the boat is very roomy. You can moveabout without having to say "excuse me" a lot. And best of all the boat sails like a dream. Fast with virtualy no weather helm.  
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. no problems so far. The stove is CNG which is hard to get. I contacted hunter thoough and they directed me quickly to a company that can supply it.  
Sailing characterisitcs Great sailing boat.  
Motoring characterisitcs Motors fine. I have the original prop, and in the lake conditions that I encounter it is no problem and works fine. I notice very little prop walk. this may be due to the size of the boat.  
Liveability Fantastic. With twin cabins and twin heads the boat is more like a condo. The back bed is large and easy to get in and out of because it is on a pedestal. The Galley is large and well laid out with two refrigerators. numerous drawers and nooks for storage. More than adequaete for a weekender at the lake.  
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very quick to respond. I sent them an e-mail asking where to get CNG for the stove and I recieved a reply the next day with good info. One of the advantages of a boat like this is haveng a company that is still in business to provide assistance.
