Review of the Hunter 376 by Anders Liljequist

Year built 1996
Location of boat Stamford, CT
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard?
Owner bought the boat in 1996
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, this is my third and by far the most fun, exciting and easiest to sail. I like the interior and we spend at least one extended (3-4 weeks) time per year cruising the New England Coast. This includes Block Island, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket.
Gear that's been added The MOST important enhancement has been the replacement of the standard Lewmar 40 with a Lewmar Ocean 44 electric winch. I would NOT own this boat without this device. I love the large sail, but it requires either two people, or excellent medical benefits, to raise.
Structural or complex improvements None
The boat's best features Interior, performace and ease of use
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The main sail without an electric winch. I would also add a solid vang with lazy jacks and get rid of the topping lift.
Sailing characterisitcs The most significant is how easy it is to sail this boat.
Motoring characterisitcs I seem to motor in the 5.4 - 6.0 knot range. I thought it would do better. I have read that this boat (under ideal conditions) should motor around 7.0 knots. I would be interested in comments/suggestions supporting this.
Liveability It's great...I have never seen a 37 foot boat with so much space. I also like the layout. The aft cabin is my favorite.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Every boat has some problems. This is my third Hunter and they have always stood by me. I also have a dealer which represents Hunter, but supports me.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
